Côte d’Ivoire has no trade agreement with India. It is a fast-growing economy with a busy port at Abidjan that also serves Burkina Faso and Mali. India is a big buyer of Ivorian raw cashew, and Indian rice, medicines, motorcycles and machinery are important exports there.

What it buys from India

  • Rice
  • Medicines
  • Vehicles, motorcycles and auto parts
  • Machinery, steel products and plastics

Import rules on their side

  • Customs is run by the General Directorate of Customs; formalities go through the foreign trade single window.
  • Medicines need marketing authorisation from the Ivorian pharmaceutical regulatory authority; some products must meet national standards set by CODINORM.
  • Food and plant products need sanitary and phytosanitary certificates; labels and documents should be in French.

Practical tips

  • Exporters who already import Ivorian cashew can use the same contacts and shipping lines to sell Indian goods back.
  • Take advance payment or a confirmed LC; check ECGC cover before giving credit.
  • French-language quotations, invoices and labels are expected.
