Why it matters
Without the right preferential certificate, your buyer pays the full duty and your price stops being competitive. Non-preferential CoOs are also asked for by many buyers, banks and LCs.
What goes on it
- Exporter, consignee, transport details
- Goods description, HS code, quantity, invoice number
- Origin criterion (for preferential certificates)
- Issuing agency's digital signature and reference number
Avoid these mistakes
- Check which agreement covers your buyer's country and which agency issues that form, on trade.gov.in.
- Apply before the vessel sails; retrospective issue is possible only in limited cases.
- Keep cost sheets and supplier bills — you may be asked to prove the origin criterion.
