Why it matters
Customs uses it to pick and examine packages. The shipping line, airline and buyer use it to check that nothing is missing. Gross weight on it must match the weighbridge and the bill of lading.
What goes on it
- Invoice reference, exporter and buyer
- Number and type of packages, marks and numbers
- Contents of each package
- Net weight, gross weight and dimensions
- Container and seal number (sea) once known
Avoid these mistakes
- Number every carton and write the same numbers on the list.
- Do not show prices on the packing list unless the buyer asks.
