Argentina is a major farm exporter and buys Indian agrochemicals, organic chemicals, two-wheelers, vehicles and medicines. It has changed its import-licensing and foreign-exchange rules several times since 2023, so always confirm the current rules with the buyer and its bank before shipping.

India–MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA)

Argentina is a MERCOSUR member, so the PTA's limited duty cuts (about 450 tariff lines each way) apply. Check whether your HS code is covered. Negotiations to expand the PTA were launched on 14 September 2026. Get the PTA certificate of origin through DGFT's online platform.

What it buys from India

  • Organic chemicals and agrochemicals
  • Motorcycles, vehicles and auto parts
  • Medicines and bulk drugs
  • Yarn, fabrics and machinery

Import rules on their side

  • Customs is run by ARCA (the former AFIP). The importer must be registered as an importer with ARCA.
  • Plant and animal products need SENASA requirements and inspection; medicines, food and cosmetics are regulated by ANMAT.
  • Labels must be in Spanish; some products (electrical goods, toys) need safety certification by an accredited Argentine body.

Practical tips

  • Prefer advance payment or a confirmed LC; check ECGC's country cover for Argentina before giving credit.
  • Ask the buyer to confirm, in writing, that it can get foreign currency to pay you on the agreed date under current central-bank rules.
  • Many shipments are routed via Brazil or tranship in Asia; confirm transit time and port with your forwarder.
