The CBIC Customs Tariff lists 8477 10 00 at 7.5%. Indian makers of plastic-processing machines get concessional rates on SG iron castings, linear motion guides and ball screws (S. No. 270 of Notification 45/2025-Customs, extended to 31 March 2028). IGST is 18% (Schedule II, heading 8477). What is imported

Plastic processors, packaging makers and appliance and auto-part suppliers import injection moulding machines. India imported about US$ 286 million under 8477 10 in 2025-26, mostly from China, Japan and Germany (TradeStat). Anti-dumping duty now changes the cost comparison between Chinese and other machines.

Import policy · Free to import

Free under ITC(HS) Schedule 1 for new machines; second-hand machines follow the conditions for second-hand capital goods.

Anti-dumping and safeguard duty

  • Anti-dumping duty on plastic processing or injection moulding machines from China and Taiwan, imposed by a Department of Revenue notification dated 26 June 2025 for five years. It covers machines in a set clamping-force range (40 tonnes and above, with an upper limit) and excludes listed types such as vertical and certain all-electric machines. Rates are a percentage of value and differ by exporter; one Chinese exporter got a nil rate. Check the CBIC notification for your supplier's rate.

Licences and registrations you need

  • DGFT (EPCG authorisation)Optional: exporters can import the machine at zero customs duty under EPCG against an export obligation.dgft.gov.in ↗

What is checked at the port

  • Clamping force, drive type (hydraulic, hybrid, all-electric) and orientation, which decide anti-dumping coverage.
  • Exporter and producer names, matched to the notification's table.
  • Moulds shipped with the machine are classified and valued separately.

Practical tips

  • Get landed-cost quotes from Japanese, European and Indian makers too; anti-dumping duty narrows the price gap.
  • Ask for the exporter's exact entry in the anti-dumping notification in writing.

Where new importers go wrong

  • Leaving anti-dumping duty out of the budget for a Chinese or Taiwanese machine.
  • Buying through a trader whose name is not the listed exporter, which can attract the highest rate.
