Step 02 / 07

Register on ICEGATE

ICEGATE is Customs’ online portal. Registering your IEC there lets you see your bills of entry, pay duty online and upload documents.

  1. 1Get your IEC (and GST registration)
  2. 2Register on ICEGATE
  3. 3Check the import policy and duty for your HS code
  4. 4Get the product licences before you order
  5. 5Check the supplier and sign a clear contract
  6. 6Pay the supplier through your AD bank
  7. 7Clear the goods: bill of entry to out of charge

Register as an IEC holder on ICEGATE using your IEC, PAN, mobile number and email. Registration is free. Keep a Class 3 digital signature certificate in the name of the business or an authorised signatory ready — ICEGATE uses it for signing; check the current requirement in the registration guide on ICEGATE.

Most importers file through a licensed customs broker, who files the bill of entry on your behalf. Even so, your own ICEGATE login lets you track each bill of entry, pay duty from your own bank account through e-payment, and upload supporting documents on e-Sanchit.

Choose your customs broker carefully: ask for their licence under the Customs Brokers Licensing Regulations, agree their charges in writing, and do not hand over blank signed documents.
