Hamburg (Germany) and rail to Czechia, Bremerhaven (Germany), Prague Václav Havel Airport

Czechia has a large car and engineering industry tied into German supply chains. It buys Indian auto parts, machinery, electrical goods, garments, chemicals and medicines. The country is landlocked, so sea cargo usually lands at Hamburg, Bremerhaven or Rotterdam and goes on by rail or road.

India–EU Free Trade Agreement (concluded, not yet in force)

Czechia trades with India under common EU rules. India and the EU concluded the FTA on 27 January 2026, and the Commerce Ministry says 90.7% of India’s exports to the EU (by value) will become duty-free once it enters into force. In June 2026 the Commerce Minister said signing was expected by December 2026 and entry into force around February–March 2027. Until then, normal EU duties apply. What it buys from India

  • Auto parts, machinery and electrical goods
  • Garments and textiles
  • Chemicals and medicines

Import rules on their side

  • Iron, steel and aluminium goods fall under the EU carbon border rules (CBAM), so buyers will ask for embedded-emissions data. Chemicals in products must meet REACH, many goods need CE marking, and deforestation rules (EUDR) apply to coffee, rubber, wood and leather from 30 December 2026 for large and medium importers.
  • Food must meet EU maximum residue levels (MRLs) for pesticides, which are often stricter than Indian limits, and some Indian foods are on the EU list for extra border checks with official test reports. Check your product on Access2Markets before you ship.
  • Retail labels must be in Czech; food is inspected by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (SZPI).

Practical tips

  • Auto buyers expect IATF 16949 quality systems, PPAP documents and exact delivery schedules.
  • Quote CIF Hamburg or DAP Prague clearly so the buyer knows who pays for the inland leg.
  • European buyers usually move to open account or documents against payment (D/P) once trust is built. For the first orders ask for an advance or an LC, and use ECGC credit insurance when you give credit.
