Bahrain is a small but open market, linked to Saudi Arabia by the King Fahd Causeway. It buys Indian rice, food, garments, machinery and building materials, and a large Indian community shapes demand for Indian brands. Rules follow GCC standards, so a product that is right for Saudi Arabia or the UAE usually needs little change.

India–GCC Free Trade Agreement (under negotiation)

There is no bilateral trade agreement in force. India and the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (which includes Bahrain) signed terms of reference in February 2026 and formally launched FTA negotiations; until a deal is in force, normal GCC customs duties apply. Confirm current status on commerce.gov.in.

What it buys from India

  • Rice, spices, fruit, vegetables and processed food
  • Garments and textiles
  • Machinery, building materials and chemicals

Import rules on their side

  • Food labels need Arabic and must follow GCC labelling standards, including production and expiry dates; meat needs a halal certificate.
  • Food is cleared by Bahrain’s food-safety authorities on arrival and may be sampled; the importer handles registration.
  • Products covered by GCC technical regulations (for example toys and electrical goods) need GCC conformity marking.

Practical tips

  • Many Bahraini buyers source through Dubai traders; supplying a Dubai distributor can be an easier first step.
  • Meet Gulf buyers at Gulfood in Dubai, where India usually has a national pavilion.
  • Ask for an advance or LC for first orders; credit is common later, so use ECGC cover.
