Oman is a short voyage from Mundra and Kandla and has a large Indian community. Before the CEPA only about 15% of India's exports entered duty-free; now almost everything does. It buys rice, food, textiles, building materials, machinery and chemicals, and its ports at Sohar, Duqm and Salalah serve the wider Gulf and East Africa.
Signed on 18 December 2025 and in force from 1 June 2026. Oman gives zero duty on 98.08% of its tariff lines, covering 99.38% of India's exports by value, and all zero-duty concessions applied from day one — including all textile and apparel lines and marine products (PIB). Claim it with a CEPA certificate of origin from DGFT.
What it buys from India
- Rice, spices, fruit, vegetables and processed food
- Textiles and garments
- Machinery, electrical goods, iron and steel
- Chemicals, ceramics and gems and jewellery
Import rules on their side
- Food labels must include Arabic and follow GCC labelling standards; meat needs a halal certificate.
- Food is inspected by Oman's food-safety authorities at entry; the importer registers products and arranges release.
- Regulated products such as toys and electrical goods must meet GCC technical regulations (G-Mark where required).
Practical tips
- Re-price your offers using the CEPA zero duty — Omani buyers who used to source from other Gulf traders may now buy direct from India.
- Many importers are of Indian origin and speak Hindi, Gujarati or Malayalam; business is also done in English.
- Start with advance payment or LC; Omani buyers may ask for credit once you are established.
