Why it matters
It goes on every shipping bill, bill of entry and foreign exchange transaction. It must be updated on the DGFT portal every year, even if nothing changed.
What goes on it
- IEC number (same as the firm's PAN)
- Firm name, address, type of entity
- Partners or directors, bank account
- Date of issue and last update
Avoid these mistakes
- Apply only on dgft.gov.in. Fake look-alike sites charge for IEC — DGFT has warned about them.
- Keep the email and mobile on the IEC current; DGFT notices go there.
